Alvarez Powers Astros to Shutout

Yordan Alvarez anchored the Houston Astros' offense with three doubles that drove in all four runs in a 4-0 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday. The win improved the Astros' record to 65-64, while the Athletics fell to 49-80. The game was played at Daikin Park in Houston, Texas, before a crowd of 28,477.

Scoring Unfolds in the Fourth

The Athletics remained scoreless throughout the contest, with Houston finding the plate at key moments. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Carlos Paredes scored on a sacrifice fly hit by Walker, giving the Astros a 1-0 lead. The scoring continued in the fifth inning when Alvarez doubled to center field, allowing Allen to score and extend the advantage to 2-0.

Second-Inning Momentum Shifts

Astros manager Brad Ausmus managed the lineup effectively, as Paredes added a double to right field shortly after, driving in Alvarez for a 3-0 margin. The final run came in the bottom of the seventh inning, when Alvarez recorded his third double of the game to shortstop, enabling Delgado to cross the plate and secure the 4-0 lead.

Pitching Performance

Hayden Wesneski earned the win for Houston, pitching five innings while allowing one hit, three walks, and striking out four batters. He was followed by Bennett Sousa, who recorded three strikeouts in one inning, and Bryan Abreu, who threw one scoreless inning with two strikeouts. Steven Okert and Enyel De Los Santos each pitched one scoreless inning to close the game.

For the Athletics, J.T. Ginn took the loss after five innings, allowing six hits, three earned runs, and two walks while striking out four. Elvis Alvarado, Drew Rom, and Hayden Juenger provided relief, with Juenger pitching two-thirds of an inning without allowing a hit or a walk.

Final Records

The Astros' 65-64 record reflects their strong second-half performance, while the Athletics' 49-80 standing highlights their struggles this season. The team-to-team matchup saw Houston dominate the box score, with no errors recorded by either club. The final score of 4-0 stands as a testament to the Astros' offensive execution and pitching depth.
