Turning Point in the Sixth
The Tampa Bay Rays seized control of their Saturday matchup against the Houston Astros with a pair of consecutive home runs that shifted the momentum entirely. In the sixth inning, the Rays broke the scoreless tie when Fortes launched a 391-foot shot to left center, giving Tampa Bay a 1-0 advantage. The Astros responded immediately in the same frame, with Alvarez sending a 427-foot ball to right center to level the contest at 1-1.
The momentum swung back to the visitors just 30 minutes later. Caminero delivered a decisive blow in the seventh inning, homering to left field to restore Tampa Bay’s lead at 2-1. This third home run of the game proved to be the difference-maker, as the Rays’ offense added insurance in the eighth inning. Fortes doubled to center field, allowing Walls to cross the plate and extend the Tampa Bay lead to 3-1.
Pitching Performance
Tampa Bay’s bullpen protected the one-run lead with precision. Kevin Kelly earned the win, pitching 1.2 scoreless innings in relief. He was followed by Casey Legumina, who pitched a perfect inning to preserve the lead, and Bryan Baker, who secured the save with a scoreless frame and a strikeout. Nick Martinez started for the Rays, throwing 5.1 innings and allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out three batters.
