Texas Rangers veteran reliever Chris Martin made his first rehabilitation appearance on Wednesday as he works to return from a right shoulder impingement. Pitching for the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders against Midland, Martin threw a scoreless inning, allowing one hit and striking out two batters.
This outing marks Martin’s first game action since he was placed on the 15-day injured list at the start of June. The move was retroactive to May 31 and followed recurring discomfort in his right shoulder. This marks his second stint on the injured list this season due to the same issue. Earlier in the year, the right-hander missed more than a month, sitting out from mid-April until late May.
Rangers manager Skip Schumaker has indicated that Martin is not expected to require an extended rehabilitation assignment. Schumaker suggested that only a couple of outings should be sufficient before the team activates him. The organization has taken a cautious approach with the 39-year-old pitcher, aiming to ensure his shoulder is fully recovered before he rejoins the major-league roster.
Frisco is about 7 miles east of Little Elm.
Martin’s performance this season has not matched the consistency he has shown throughout much of his career. Across 12 appearances in 2026, he holds a 7.84 earned run average. A healthy return could provide an opportunity for him to reset during the second half of the season.
