A Collin County jury has sentenced Vanessa Esquivel to 25 years in state prison for the death of her 15-month-old child, who died after being left inside a vehicle in Frisco. Frisco is about 7 miles east of Little Elm.
Esquivel, 28, of Dallas, was arrested in August 2025 following the incident. According to the Frisco Police Department, she arrived at her workplace located in the 3200 block of Preston Road around 2 p.m. on the day in question. Police stated that she intentionally left the child in her car without air conditioning for approximately two hours.
The temperature that day reached at least 95 degrees. The infant died as a result of the exposure. Esquivel entered a plea of not guilty during the legal proceedings.
Court records from Collin County indicate that a jury found Esquivel guilty of murder on June 18. The jury also determined the length of her sentence, resulting in the 25-year term. Further details regarding the specific circumstances leading to the sentencing or any appeals were not provided in the available reports.
