Prosper ISD Superintendent Holly Ferguson has announced she will retire at the end of 2026. In a letter distributed to staff and families on March 9, Ferguson shared her decision to leave the district. The Prosper ISD board had previously extended her contract through 2031 during a February meeting, changing the term from July 2025 to June 2030.
Ferguson will continue her duties as superintendent through May 18. Following that date, she will assume the role of superintendent emeritus before officially retiring on Jan. 31, 2027. Prosper is located approximately 9 miles northeast of Little Elm.
In neighboring Celina, the school district is preparing for significant expansion. Celina ISD will open a new middle school next year, with three additional elementary schools scheduled to debut in the 2027-28 academic year. These new campuses will serve as the district's sixth, seventh, and eighth elementary schools.
The district has named the new elementary schools to honor long-serving staff members. Alma Jo Scott Elementary will recognize Scott, who spent 38 years with the district and was known as an original "Bobcat Mom." Ophelia Grumbles Elementary honors Grumbles, who began teaching in Celina in the late 1930s and dedicated her career to local students. The eighth campus will be named Janet H. Calvert Elementary, honoring Calvert, who served for more than 30 years as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal.
School zones have also been established for Willard Middle School in Celina ISD and Jim Bridges Middle School in Prosper ISD. The speed limit on Frontier Parkway near Jim Bridges Middle School will be reduced to 35 mph. Speed limits for the remaining new school zones will be set at 20 mph during drop-off and pickup times.
