Decisive Moment
Jake Nimmo’s single to center field in the ninth inning provided the winning run, lifting the Texas Rangers to a 6-5 victory over the Houston Astros on Sunday at Globe Life Field. The hit scored Michael Langford, who had reached base earlier in the frame, giving Texas the lead for good in a game defined by late momentum shifts. The attendance was 33,804.
Early Astros Lead
Houston jumped out to an early advantage in the second inning against Rangers starter MacKenzie Gore. With one out, Josh Jung reached base, and Corey Seager followed. In the top of the second, Jose Altuve’s presence was felt, but it was the Rangers’ offense that struck first in the bottom half. Adolis Garcia singled to right, driving in Marcus Semien, while Nathaniel Lowe moved to third. Two batters later, Evan Carter doubled to right, scoring Lowe and Garcia to extend the Rangers’ lead to 3-0. However, the Astros quickly answered in the top of the fourth when Altuve homered to left center, a 387-foot shot that cut the deficit to 3-1.
Back-and-Forth Scoring
The game remained tight through the middle innings. In the fifth, the Rangers added an insurance run when Jung scored on a triple by Nimmo to right, making it 4-1. Houston clawed back in the seventh. Corey Seager hit a sacrifice fly to left, bringing in Kyle Tucker to make it 4-2. The Astros then tied the game when Isaac Paredes singled to center, driving in both Michael Brantley and Yordan Alvarez, who moved to second. The score was now 4-4. The eighth inning saw both teams trade home runs. Josh Smith launched a 405-foot homer to left for Texas, giving the Rangers a 5-4 lead. Houston responded immediately as Seager homered to left, a 366-foot shot, to tie the game at 5-5.
